BOKURA: Planet with Hi2Chan

4 hours, referring to a guide thrice, and many braincells used later, Hi2chan and I completed BOKURA: Planet! In May-June last year, we completed BOKURA, the first game to the series that was published in 2022 over 2 streams. BOKURA’s two games are fun and unique in its two-player puzzle platformer mechanics, which requires communication between the players to find out what each person is able to see and work together using the differences that appear on each screen.

BOKURA: Planet follows 2 adults on a planet they have crash landed on. In this game, the environment was the same in both, but each character had a secret agenda and different backstory. BOKURA: Planet seemed to explore different themes from its prequel, and there was 1 puzzle which we did not understand and found quite cryptic, but the rest of the puzzles were manageable in our opinion. I think the developer notes from Friday, May 2nd gives us insight and describes the differences between both games perfectly:

About BOKURA: planet – Thank you Regarding the Launch & Upcoming Update Plans
This project grew out of ideas I had during the planning of BOKURA, but with a twist: whereas the original focused on “the different landscapes each player sees,” BOKURA: planet explores “what each player is thinking in their heart.”

You and your partner must cooperate toward your own hidden goals, creating the paradox of feeling lonely even while standing side by side.

In moments where thorough communication and mutual understanding are crucial, tensions may arise—but that very tension, and the process of working through it together, completes the experience.

After you finish playing, I hope you’ll ask yourselves: What changed between the two of you? What stayed the same? And above all, what lies beyond confronting that sense of loneliness? It’s in those questions—and your conversations afterward—that BOKURA: planet truly comes to life.
